Running more than one business

Create a separate organisation per business, each with its own clients, invoices and branding, and switch between them from one menu without logging out.

3 min read

If you run a side venture alongside your main work, or a handful of separate businesses, each one gets its own organisation rather than sharing a single muddled list.

Step by step

  1. Create the organisation — Add the new business with its own name and details.
  2. Set its branding and defaults — Upload its logo, set its business address, its default tax rate and its home currency. These are what appear on the documents that go out under that name.
  3. Switch between them — Pick the organisation you want from the menu. No logging out, no second account.
  4. Work inside one at a time — Clients, projects, invoices and contractors you create belong to whichever organisation you are in, which is what keeps the two ventures cleanly apart.

Before you split

Two organisations make sense when the businesses are genuinely separate — different names, different clients, different books. If it is one business with two kinds of work, projects are the better tool for the job.

Quirks worth knowing

The small things that trip people up.

Nothing bleeds between organisations

Clients, projects, invoices, quotes and contractors belong to one organisation only. A client in one venture never appears in another's list.

Branding and defaults are per organisation

Each one keeps its own logo, business details, default tax rate and home currency, so every document goes out looking right for that business.

One login, one bill

Every organisation lives under the same account on the same flat paid plan. There is no second subscription to manage as you add businesses.

The free tier is a single organisation

Free covers one organisation and one active project. A second organisation is what the paid plan is for.

Notifications label which business they are about

One device covers every organisation, and each line in a digest says which business it belongs to — so you do not need a second phone for the side venture.
