Setting up push notifications

Choose which devices get a daily digest, pick the hour it arrives, and switch on only the alerts you want — overdue invoices, expiring quotes, forgotten timers.

Push notifications are for the things you would otherwise find out about too late: an invoice tipping overdue, a quote about to expire, a timer still running from yesterday.

Step by step

On iPhone or iPad, install the app first — Apple only delivers notifications to an installed app, so add Billable to your Home Screen before anything else. On Android, Windows, macOS and Linux you can skip this, because the browser is enough (though installing is nicer).
Turn it on for the device — Go to Account → Notifications and allow notifications when your browser asks. Do this on each device you want to hear from.
Pick your hour — Choose when the daily digest arrives, in your own local time.
Choose your alerts — Switch on the ones you want: invoices going overdue, client payments coming due, sent quotes about to expire, timers left running, and automatic reminders going out to clients.

What the digest covers

Invoices that have gone overdue.
What is due over the next week.
Drafts you have not sent yet.
On Mondays, a summary of the week just gone — hours tracked, invoiced and paid.

Quirks worth knowing

The small things that trip people up.

The digest hour is your local time

Pick 9am and it arrives at 9am where you are, not where a server is. Travel and it follows the clock you are actually living on.

Settings are per device, not per account

Your phone can buzz at nine while your laptop stays silent. Each device you turn on is configured separately, and any of them can be switched off completely.

Monday brings a week-in-review

On Mondays the digest also carries a short summary of the week just gone — hours tracked, invoiced and paid.

Amounts are never converted

A notification shows the currency the work was billed in. You will not get a total that looks precise but is really an estimate at yesterday's rate.

Every alert type is its own switch

Overdue invoices, upcoming payments, expiring quotes, long-running timers and sent reminders are separate toggles — keep the ones that matter, silence the rest.

Tapping opens the right page

A notification takes you straight to the invoice, quote or timer it is about, not to a generic dashboard.

One device covers every organisation

If you run more than one business, a single device handles them all and each line is labelled with the business it belongs to.

iPhone needs the app installed first

Apple only delivers push notifications to an app added to the Home Screen. Everywhere else — Android, Windows, macOS, Linux — the browser is enough.
